An ecosystem is a community of living organisms in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment, interacting as a system.
That system might have unknown gaps.
Unless you are moving within a 10 mile radius of your old home, you may have to consider the new city's options when it comes to everything from a gym to medical specialists. When I moved to my most recent home (about 2 hours away from my old home), I asked my new primary care physician if he could refer me to a gastroenterologist that had a holistic approach. When he was done laughing, he told me that I should keep my old doc on speed dial. I've spent many years finding the right diet to keep my Crohn's in remission, but I didn't really research the local medical talent and while it wouldn't have deterred my move- if someone had a more severe case, how close you live to a medical center might be something to consider. The other things we need to look at are safety, transportation, schools, volunteer opportunities- the list can get complex.
Whether you are moving to be close to family and friends or you are moving away from them, we need to look at your social circle and how easily it will be for you to be surrounded by people you trust and love. It might be as simple as making sure you have high speed internet to make virtual calls to stay connected or as complex as needing babysitters that you trust. We can't make assumptions that every city can fulfill your needs. If your city doesn't offer the options you need to be successful, the move might move you further away from your dreams than closer to it.
I sometimes find that people know what they don't want more so than what they do want! 'I don't want another noisy or nosey neighbor,' 'I don't want to have a 20 minute commute just to get to the highway,' 'I don't want a multi-level house- I'm done with all the stairs!' Those are actually just some of my personal rants- that's how I can help you decipher what you DO want! Sometimes people have a clear idea of what they have on their wish list like 'more natural sunlight in my new home,' 'a church with an amazing worship team within 15 minutes of my new home', or 'a CrossFit box within 3 miles' -once we narrow down your wish list, we can determine if this is the right ecosystem (or city) for you to move to and adjust if we need to.
We've decided it's a good move for you. Now let's refine your dreams and see how you are going to get the most out of this new ecosystem so you can bloom where you're planted.
